Information for passengers
Airport security
Important information:
Since 6 November 2006, new EU security regulations have been in effect at airports (PDF-Dokument, 69 Kilobyte), with regards to taking
liquids in hand luggage.
Governed by legal worldwide regulations, the security checks of all passengers and their hand luggage and suitcases are conducted by
trained staff using state-of-the-art equipment. To ensure this runs smoothly, we ask you to bear in mind the following.
As a medium-size international passenger terminal, Erfurt Airport is excellently laid out, thus providing you with a high degree of security. Our service staff are happy to answer your questions and take onboard suggestions. Please have boarding passes, and in some cases also identification papers, ready when entering the security area.
Check in as early as possible and limit the number of cabin baggage items, that way, you’ll be helping towards prompt checks and on-time departures.
Carry-on luggage, jackets, coats and all other loose items such as cigarette lighters, keys, wallets, pens, mobile telephones and similar must be put through the X-ray machine. Baskets will be provided for these.
The X-rays are safe for conventional cameras, films or laptops. Manual checks are only necessary for special equipment.
Gate sensors are used to examine passengers. The device reacts when it encounters any metallic item. Staff checks with hand sensors are only necessary if use of the device is refused.
Although there is no proven damage caused by the detectors, persons with pacemakers can bypass the gate sensors.
Items posing a danger, or which can be mistaken as being dangerous, come under the dangerous goods regulations and cannot be
taken, for example:
- Any kind of guns or ammunition
- Any kind of explosives
- Hand weapons
- Explosive devices
- Flammable liquids or solids
- Virus-containing substances
- Gas containers
- Oxidising substances
- Poisons
- Dummies which can be mistaken for weapons or explosive devicesInsecticides
- Acids
- Bases
- Radioactive substances
Some of these items may, however, be taken in checked-in luggage. If in doubt, please promptly contact the airline.
In light of recent events, security checks have been tightened, so the following items are not permitted in hand luggage and must be placed
in checked luggage:
- Knives and scissors of all sizes
- Tools
- Golf caddies
- Racquets and bats
- Cutlery
Please note that, when flying with Israeli, American and British airlines, other, more extensive security regulations may apply!
