While Weimar is probably the most famous city in Thuringia, having been home to Schiller and Goethe, Eisenach is home to the Wartburg and Jena is best known for its traditional optical industry (Carl Zeiss).
Thuringia was home to Martin Luther and Reformation. Erfurt's Old Synagoge contains treasures of Jewish heritage and the Dom of Erfurt is Catholic to date. So Thuringia enjoys to date a strong traveler interest in history and religion.
