Environment and noise protection
Compensatory measures
After a large part of the new biotopes planned to compensate environmental interference has been designed, the airport’s environmental
protection activities will, in future, focus on optimising the nature-protection functions of plant and animal habitats.
This also includes biotope management of other airport areas to keep future interference-related airport expansions away from
compensation areas.
Outdoor areas and parks
Apart from the work to compensate plan-based interference with the landscape, we also look after the landscape around the airport.
With a group of gardeners, the outdoor areas of the airport will be tended so that the newly designed landscape of parks, footpaths and relaxation areas, along with airport’s state-of-the-art image, will invite our guests to return.
Aircraft noise measurement system
All efforts in technical environmental protection are focused on protecting the people living in the immediate vicinity of the airport from aircraft noise.
Based on an extensive aircraft noise monitoring system comprising six fixed and one mobile station, the aircraft noise impact in the surrounding area is constantly assessed. The results of this monitoring can provide information on reducing the aircraft noise impact by changing the approach and departure methods.
Noise protection programme in the day and night noise protection areas
Despite all endeavours to operate flights with as little harm to the environment as possible, the population continues to be impacted by aircraft noise. To rectify this, so-called “Passive Noise Protection Measures” are currently being conducted in two programmes for particularly affected neighbours in the airport’s day and night protection areas.
This involves fitting noise-insulated windows, noise-insulation fans, as well as insulating walls and ceilings.
Compensation for outdoor living areas
The restricted use of outdoor relaxation areas because of aircraft noise is taken into account with a programme to compensate outdoor
living areas particularly affected by aircraft noise.
Erfurt Airport will pay owners of relaxation gardens (house gardens, smallgardens) a one-off compensation varying in amount
depending on the size of certain outdoor living areas.
